Mid Wales Bees and Wasps
Ivy Mining Bee
Updated: Sep 27, 2020

The photo above is of an Ivy mining bee, Colletes hederae, taken and recorded by Keith Noble from 2 new sites in the Brecon area this week. These bees have recently started to colonise the UK and are seen in late summer, early autumn. They use ivy flowers and are distinctive by the orange hair bands on the abdomen. Do keep a look out for them!
